The BnB is another that does an off site breakfast. It’s a good idea, especially at this time of the year. So, I went to another bustling cafe, this time just a couple of doors down the road.
They were doing a roaring trade, with people dropping in for an espresso and Cornetto, and immediately being on their way. In all of this activity, there was just one person serving everyone. And that seems to be a common thing here – minimal staff, and everything just works. And nobody would order a half strong skinny decaf. Violence may ensue, and so it should.

I hit the road and immediately noticed a strong tailwind. I can’t remember the last one but I’ll take it. Unfortunately the road out of town was busy and narrow for a few kms but it soon quietened down. It got better when the signs suggested a detour due to roadworks and the cars disappeared.

Only local traffic was allowed through so I took a punt that I’d get through all the way. From there, I pretty much had the road to myself. There were more warning signs later but I’d made a great decision, as the guys repairing the concrete on the last bridge were happy for me to go through.

The tailwind continued as the road stayed within a few hundred metres of the coast. There were villages in the hills but I didn’t need an additional diversion today. I had one coming up in the last 25kms.

There is so much distracted driving happening here, so I decided to count the number of drivers on their phones. After four out of the first five were on their phones, I stopped counting . I just don’t need empirical evidence of what I see all day.
I don’t know how Italians steer, they’ve got one hand holding the phone and they’re talking with the other 😁

There was more roadwork to come and a stop/go guy told me to be very careful up ahead. The traffic was super light so there were no issues except for me nearly getting on to the Autostrada by mistake.

The diversion I mentioned was only discovered this morning. I wondered why Komoot made me go 10 KMs up a valley, cross a bridge and go 10kms back. I read where cyclists recommended the diversion or to catch a train or bus (trains were discontinued here a couple of years ago). Google on the other hand suggested a different route which involved breaking the law and using the Autostrada – a little irresponsible?

The last thing I need is to be stuck on a road where these clowns are driving even faster… so I did the diversion. It couldn’t be too bad really ?

It was uphill and into the wind and for most of it, it was drizzling. It was never going to be heavy rain, but it was always going to be annoying. … and of course it stopped as I neared the top.
The downhill was a lot of fun. Not so much for the poor dog that started running just ahead of me looking to intercept me though. I shouted at it and it yelped and left the arena, a very surprised and scared puppy. I actually felt bad for it, but I really didn’t want to tangle with it at 50km/hr.

From there it was a fairly easy run to the BnB, even though Komoot couldn’t work out how to navigate there. It simply gave up and said it wasn’t possible. Another day where Komoot made some big mistakes.
