Alghero to Bosa – wet n wild

Today’s ride on Komoot

I was really concerned about today. For the last few days, the forecast for toda has been for 28mm of rain. That’s more than an inch so it’s significant. Luckily, last night, this was reduced to 19mm and as I was having breakfast, they reduced it even further. Nice !

Unfortunately, the wind forecast didn’t change. It stayed at 25-30km/hr headwinds. In a moment of bravado or stupidity a few days ago, I booked a place in Bosa. I read where it was a nice town, and I found out this afternoon, exactly how nice. It’s beautiful.

The rain was never far away

So, I started off and it was very wet and very windy. It was a day of rain pants and overshoes, so I didn’t win the fashion stakes. I did the usual thing too – after 5kms, I said to myself “do that another eight times and you’ll be there”. The fact was, I didn’t want to repeat those first five kms even once. I was starting to question myself, as I was already sick of the rain and wind. Luckily, the rain backed off after the first hour, although the rain clouds hugged the mountains right beside me and at no stage, did I think that I’d get to Bosa almost completely dry. That’s what happened though.

In between was some absolutely stunning coastline, hills, and even roads. There was more than 800 vertical metres in the whole 46kms, but I loved it all. I must have been rested.

This stretch of road is amazing
… From another angle

I would love to do this ride on a nice day. It’s amazing. The fact is that the weather probably meant that the traffic was very light. Every 5 or 10 minutes a car would come past so it was very quiet.

When I arrived in Bosa, I could see that something was happening. It’s carnival tonight. I’ve never heard of a mid winter carnival but they’re all out enjoying themselves and they’ve cranked up the music even though it’s drizzling. Luckily, I found a quiet cafe for a beer and a huge toastie for dinner.

I’m definitely going to sleep well tonight.
