Beziers to Sète

Today’s ride on Komoot

I stayed at a nice hotel in Beziers, except that the room was on the third floor up the stairs. After a days ride, you just don’t feel like lumping all of your gear up three flights of stairs. It had a great view to the park and up the wide boulevard though.

From the hotel

Today was my birthday and I was lucky to have calls with my brothers in the morning, and my sister and Minou called along the way. Needless to say – that made me quite late again.

Beziers

I had some breakfast, retrieved This Moment from the car park around the corner and left town.

Again, there was plenty of canal side riding but today I also had some flat beach-side riding, some really rocky roads but it was pretty easy and uncomplicated.

It was a very quiet day riding through an area that is devoted to summer. There were theme parks, marinas and restaurants that were shut down for the winter, and only a few cars on the road.

Luckily, I’d got my food for the day in Beziers because there wasn’t much open being Saturday afternoon. I stopped by the river in a village and had my lunch. Not a soul stirred. It felt like everyone had gone home for a snooze, and as I continued, I felt like the same.

The last part into Sète was along the beach on a perfect bike path, and as I approached, there were more and more people on the beaches and the surrounding paths. The central part of Sète has some canals and some large-ish boats and is a nice place to look around.

Getting closer to Sète

I found the hotel, checked in and went for a birthday beer, then the sun set and it got much colder. It was nearly 7pm by this stage, so I crossed the canal in search of dinner. As I walked around, it seemed that 7pm was closing time everywhere. Restaurants and cafes were closing as I looked around. I finally gave up and settled for a very average felafel roll on the way back to the hotel. Not the greatest of birthdays by meal standards, but I’d had a fantastic day in the south of France regardless.

Chilly spot for a birthday beer
