Lots to do today. I had my new front sprocket, but needed a special tool to install it. I had also spoken to the bike shop in Chiang Mai and had my hopes up that a local bike shop could do it.
So I rode the 6kms to the only bike shop around, and had to wake the owner up when I arrived 😁
They were very interested, but as soon as they saw the belt drive etc, they shook their heads and said no, no, no, can’t help. Oh well, it’s not too bad as it is, and I’ve probably done about 2000kms with the warp in it, so I should be fine for a while.
That’s the downside of this sort of bike. It’s certainly very very low maintenance but it’s also difficult to get help if something goes wrong that I can’t fix – especially in Asia. I expect that in Europe, I won’t have an issue.
Ok, so back to town to get some things, and my glasses broke – that’s the third time on this trip. Luckily I found a guy who could repair them. So glad I bought some good frames in Chiang Mai.
For dinner, I went to a recommended food stall where the lady only operates in the evening after cooking most of the day. The food was awesome. I ate plenty of it and took it back to the hotel verandah, as did the other guests.
At the hotel in the evening, I spoke to a Swiss guy and his wife and a Thai couple. We sat out on the verandah with food and drinks enjoying the evening looking across the Mekong.
The hotel is just perfect for me – clean rooms, a famous view, a verandah, close to everything, and nice people.
