Day 4 to Port Macquarie (123km – 433km so far): More than planned

Thursday January 12, 2017

We had a late-ish start to the day. The night was really warm and it was hard to sleep.
I got a splinter in a finger a week ago and it’s been swollen and infected for the last few days. I saw the doc last night and he lanced it, squeezed it and pushed and prodded but couldn’t find the splinter. So I’ll be on antibiotics and we’ll see how it goes.

Today is very hot and we are heading inland to Taree first. The Lakes Way is the only road and with a few kms on the highway, we were in Taree at 11am or so. Greg needed to visit a bike shop and immediately became a celebrity due to his bike. The Specialised Sequoia has only recently been stocked by the local bike shop.

From Taree, we headed up the highway – no choice unfortunately, and we turned off at Moorland, bound for Laurieton. This is a dirt road of about 17kms in pretty good condition and not too many cars.

In Laurieton, we realised that our intended destination didn’t cater for tents so we decided to push on to Port Macquarie. That meant that it would be a 120km+ day, so i was pleased to see Port Macquarie at the end of the day, pitched the tent and jumped into the surf.
