Well, the wait is finally over. My dream trip has begun. I’ve had just over a year off since the last big trip and I feel ready to get back into the bike packing lifestyle for the rest of this year (almost).
Bangkok has been remarkably pleasant weather-wise. I’ve never been here at this time of the year.
Today, I got the 10:15am train to Ayutthaya in order to get out of BKK as simply as possible. From there, I rode to Saraburi and meet up with Miles, a good friend from the UK. I first met Miles and his wife Claire in Laos in 2022, and we are looking forward to a few good months of touring on the way north and into China.

It was a warm but calming journey on the old rattling train but very nice to exit and start the trip proper. At one of the last stations, a young couple got on with their child. They seemed friendly and the guy quickly got on to google translate and asked me where I was getting off. I thought – that’s nice, he’s about to ask about my trip, but I realised he just wanted my seat. We all have different priorities.

The ride was pretty uneventful but it certainly made me think about the task ahead. I do need to get into a rhythm again and simply let everything flow. Regardless, it’ll be fun.

Miles has had some jet lag and I’m very unfit, so I’m going to ease into this first week of riding and eat as much Thai street food as humanly possible – love it.
