Dungarvan to Waterford

Today’s ride on Komoot

Today, I had the pleasure of riding with @rickyroule whom I met in Killarney station (along with @eileen.on.a.bike). Richard was also in Dungarvan last night, so we got in touch and rode to Waterford.

Last night’s B&B

We’d spend the whole day on the Waterford Greenway along with hundreds of others who were walking, running and cycling along various parts. It’s a fantastic trail with early coastal views, then rolling farmland and finally along beside the river into the centre of Waterford.

Richard – today’s ride buddy

It was great to have some company for the day and talk about all sorts of things.

The greenway was interesting too. There was a tunnel that was set up with a Halloween theme with sound and creepy displays along it. It was also leaking water like crazy and at times it felt like it was raining. Someone had gone to a lot of trouble to set it up too.

We stopped for lunch in Kilmacthomas at a cafe that had plenty of bikes parked outside. Getting off the greenway meant that I could actually see the old bridge. Usually on these trails, you simply cycle over bridges without seeing the structure below. A lot of them are restored railway bridges from many many years ago. This one was great. I’m continually amazed at the amount of work done to build these things in the first place

Later, the greenway went beside a train station which I thought wasn’t in use. It had a cafe and more Halloween related displays. I never knew before, that Halloween originated in Ireland. A few kms later, we saw the small train pulling just a few carriages with almost as many tourists on board.

The trail took us into the centre of Waterford where we stopped and had a coffee in the main square, before saying goodbye. All the best Richard and thanks for the ride today !

I made my way to the small Airbnb on the outskirts and had a very easy evening. I’m expecting to catch a couple of buses tomorrow. The weather won’t be great and really, I need a rest.

I’m looking forward to the next week – I’ll see Timo and Kath and catch up with lots of friends in and around London. Still not sure where I’ll go next, but it’ll be somewhere in southern Europe.
