An easy day ahead. I was warned by a cyclist from Luxembourg that it was pretty boring. I guess he was right-ish, but any day is boring if you let it.
First job (in these parts) is always the hunt for a boulangerie and it wasn’t easy. The first one along the way was closed for holidays. Zero marks for google, grumpiness increasing by the kilometre.
A few kms more further on was another closed place but soon after that, was a great small boulangerie where I stocked up.
I went back towards the canal and resumed the route which continued along the canal and continued and continued…
I had lunch beside the canal, where else ? It was cloudy at the time and there were plenty of options as I didn’t need shade. Passers by always look in horror as I’m priming the stove. I guess they see a flame flickering, maybe they smell petrol, regardless they always do a double take before carrying on.
It really was a canal day until I got close to Nancy. I was ahead of schedule so I stopped beside, you guessed it, the canal for a rest and to kill some time. It was nice to sit back and relax.
The last part into Nancy wasn’t exciting as it went through a light industrial area along bike paths beside a major road. Suddenly, a canal felt like a great option.
Things got cloudy again as I neared the bnb and there were even some spots of rain. That’s when Anne, the host appeared, gave me the keys and explained everything. I have two nights here and as usual, I’m looking forward to some sleep and some home cooking.
On my rest day, I did exactly that. I slept in, cooked up eggs for breakfast and had a fantastic baguette from just up the road. I ventured out a couple of times but the drizzle made it difficult. There’s lots of Art Nouveau touchs throughout the city and Place Stanislaus is pretty impressive.
