Georgetown, Penang

On my first full day in Georgetown and I did a fair amount of walking around and simply gawking at the buildings in the UNESCO Heritage area.

Food is a focus here, so there was some good coffee, Char Kway Tow, and I’ve just finished my first Assam Laksa. The Laksa was brilliant so there’ll be more of those, I’m sure (thanks for the challenge Joyce).

I also worked on this blog. There were some areas in WordPress that I wasn’t sure about, but it’s sorted now and I should be up to date in a few days. (Ed. Well, that didn’t happen, but I’m working on it).

Today started with a 30km ride along the north coast here. Tbh, I was disappointed. I was rarely on the coast, but the ride was still very worthwhile. Close to Georgetown there are kilometres of gated community developments, so most of the way was along fairly busy roads. I managed to stop for some breakfast and headed back

The day had warmed up by the time I got back and cleaned up, but there was a ferry ticket to get, more walking to do, and sensational food to eat.

The bad news I discovered, was that there are no longer ferries between Penang and Langkawi. Covid has affected a lot of tourism and even though the tourists are returning, everything isnt and may never get back to how it was. That was evident to me on Tioman and the surrounding mainland areas as well.

Oh well, that just means more riding in Malaysia – not a bad outcome really 😁

Dinner was Char Kway Teoh from a hawker stall, but it just wasn’t enough (my cyclist appetite takes a while to wane), so I walked down the road for another Assam Laksa and Lime juice – superb again.

I decided to get the 7:30am ferry tomorrow, and see how far I get towards Kuala Kedah. That meant grabbing some food for breakfast, ride snacks etc. All done without any trouble.
