The weather forecast wasn’t great today – yes, that pattern formed a couple of weeks ago and can be expected to continue. After one too many climbs today I questioned the route planner as to why we weren’t in southern Italy now, instead of slogging through the soggy Alps while freezing. There’s no good answer to that.
The path (the BK) took us through plenty of small villages, and being a holiday, very few had anything open today.
We stopped and had some food in a bus shelter beside a massive tree trunk that had been prepared for the local May day celebrations. Later, we’d see one being erected by a bunch of men who were clearly ignorant of OH&S issues. That’s the picture at the top. Seriously, they were holding the tree trunk up with ropes and sticks.
The rest of the day was on the now usual excellent bike paths. I wish the same could be said for the weather because it grew steadily worse until our arrival in Füssen. By then, we were wet and cold and in need of a hot chocolate. We rode up the main street and thought about finding a hotel, but the lure of a cafe was far greater.
We soon found one and sat over a hot chocolate in the cosy warmth while searching for hotels and Airbnbs. I thought we had a good one but the arrogant sounding receptionist would have nothing to do with us. Maybe two wet cyclists aren’t appealing to up market establishments. I’ve no idea why…
Over the road Dennis found one that was great – warm, dry, large, and beds that were far enough apart to be almost outside snoring range. Sadly, it wasn’t the case.
There was a bar downstairs which was served as the site of some serious blogging and relaxing, but it was simply nice to be warm and out of the weather.
Dinner was at an Italian restaurant where the waiter kindly dragged himself away from the mirror long enough to serve us. Strangely he spoke Italian to us and they only served Greek beer.
it was then back to the hotel to arrange the day’s washing, hoping that everything would be dry in the morning.
Not many photos today – due to the weather
