Khao Lak to Khura Buri – 86kms

I was breakfasted and underway by 7:30am on a great day. A beautiful beach morning with no clouds, if only I was going to the beach ! The cycling was going to be very hot for a change. And it was, even at 7:30.

At about 9:30, I saw a Cafe Amazon, which means coffee, fruit smoothie and aircon. I lingered there, not wanting to go back out onto the heat, but while there, some thick clouds had moved in and made things bearable. They didn’t last, but whenever the clouds moved back in, it was pleasant.

I was getting peckish, but I didn’t see a place I particularly liked and decided to try in Khura Buri, my destination for the day.

I did stop at a market where one helpful Thai lady recommended a few stalls to go to. She could speak German, so my Deutsch skills were put to the test. Dutch words kept coming out for the first minute or two until I got the hang of it. Happy friendly people as ever. The lady even suggested that I should live somewhere in Thailand because everyone is happy here. She has a point.

I had some spring rolls and couldn’t resist the freshly cooked waffles. Yum.

Tom’s House Guesthouse was very good. When I cleaned up and cooled down I went to a nearby restaurant to have a look. It didn’t look like much – they had beef and rice but I was hungry after the 86kms and sat down to eat.

Oh boy, when the food arrived, it was superb, and the boss was a great guy too.

Dinner was the opposite experience. I tried the place over the road, friendly people but it was really quite bad. I need to hone my restaurant picking skills !
