Today was a mix of great riding on quiet interesting roads and some really hot boring sections. The hotel here is excellent and I’m at the Chinese restaurant next door.
I went to bed with thunderstorms forecast to dump loads of rain across most of the day. However, when I woke, it was fine and the forecast reflected that – phew.
The day started with me thinking that I had a highway day on Highway 5, but the GPS immediately got me off the highway, and onto a much smaller road a few kms inland. The first 10kms were full of startled looking people with looks that said – what is this old white guy doing riding a bike through here ?
They were friendly as usual. The main problem with this road was the fact that I had no idea where any food places would be. I was lucky though, as at about 15kms, a Roti Restaurant appeared – just at the right time. Double roti egg and coffee were just what the doctor ordered.
The temp continued to rise though and the flat terrain combined with the dead straight road for 30kms left me quite bored.
So I turned off to have a look at Sungai Besar and rode by the markets as they were closing, and then headed into town for a cold drink and some early lunch. Nasi Lemak and a barley drink did the job.
I knew I didn’t want to continue riding to Teluk Intan but I thought I’d have a look at Sabak along the way. I needed more cold water here, and decided to head to Hutan Melintang. Oh boy, it was boring on highway 5. Luckily it was quiet.
