Limerick to Abbeyfeale

Today’s ride on Komoot

I went to Tesco last night and stocked up on breakfast things, so I was looking forward to that. Not a great sleep last night, so I was my usual slow self in the morning. I feel like I’m getting lots of things done in the morning until I look at my watch and realise that I need to get going.

It was cold and overcast as I left the hotel – the Old Quarter Townhouse. I retrieved my bike from the storage area across the alleyway but the bike wasn’t there. Somebody had moved it next door, and there was another bike where I’d left mine. Another mystery.

Limerick wasn’t really impressive. I was expecting more. I’m sure it was great previously but there are many closed stores and beggars in the centre. So, leaving was simple, but took a while because it’s a big place.

The greenway

After 25kms, the trail joined the Greenway, which I followed to Abbeyfeale. It was a well built trail with signs announcing the name of each small area and a translation of the name. Some evoked ancient or swashbuckling images but all of the should be read in your best Yoda voice.

Arrrrhhh, ye olde way of the birch !
Then a mediaeval fort
I didn’t see any oak trees here
Getting darker
Sounds sinister…
Then this. Honestly, Churchtown, the town of the church ? Really ? Surely they’re better than this

By the time I got to Abbeyfeale, I was tired. It was an easy day but I felt more tired than I should have. Perhaps it’s the cold weather, but I think I need a break to rest and recuperate, so I’ll start planning something after Ireland.

Aim street, Abbeyfeale
More greenway
