After a filling breakfast I was underway fairly early and hardly stopped for a good 20kms. I think that’s the key to arriving somewhere before 5pm rather than after 6pm (which I’m a little sick of doing).
The Via Rhona is a great and popular bike route. The difference with others that I’ve done is that I’m in Southern France. Here, everybody says hello – cyclists, hikers, farmers, … everyone. Compared to Northern Europe (I’m lookin’ at you Germany), the friendliness makes a huge difference. It’s not just the scenery that puts a smile on my face . Miles and Clare felt the same unfriendliness during our time in Germany. That’s why they’re now cycling through the Vosges in France and enjoying it.
As well, there aren’t so many day tripping ebikers with their sad faces and grimaces that day “I don’t want to be here”.
Today was all about getting to Avignon. It wasn’t overly exciting until I got there. It really is a nice town and therefore full of tourists.
I stayed at a friendly and simple apartment hotel close to the centre, dropped my gear, locked up This Moment and headed out to look around.
It really is a tourist theme park here, but enjoyable just the same.
