Montpellier to Nimes

Today’s ride on Komoot

I had a moderate day today. It was more than 60 kms to Nimes but there was nothing strenuous and I’m definitely winding down as this part of the trip comes to an end. Three days to go before a rest.

It’s interesting. I wonder if the exhaustion is more mental than physical, as I feel fine when I’m pedalling. I suspect it’s the rest of the daily chores that have worn me down a bit recently. What will the weather do ? What’s the route like ? Where will I stay ? what will I do when I’m there ? Where else should I visit ? Where should I have a break ? When can I go camping again ? I really miss that. Maybe in Sardinia.

All of these questions fill my head constantly, and there’s lots to consider along the way. So, I’m looking forward to Sardinia, where I’ll have a short break to recharge. I’ll probably do the same in Sicily.

Leaving Montpellier was a bit busy and ugly with traffic and busy roads the only option for the first part. After that, I followed quiet roads and a Greenway into Nimes.

I went through Sommières and had a quick look around. The gate to the city is impressive and the area was extremely quiet – very different to the photos I saw on Google maps with loads of tourists.

On the way out of Sommières, a Greenway began and it was nice easy riding through the countryside for many of the remaining kilometres.

I planned the route into Nimes to go past the Roman Arena and wow, it was worth it. It’s really well preserved and restored and like the rest of the area, absolutely beautiful. I’m really pleased I came this way.

I got a room at the royal hotel where the restaurant is being renovated. That was the perfect place to park This Moment.

Later, I walked around the beautiful city. The Roman temple, Maison Carrée is really well preserved as well.
