Nowogard to Gryzybowo

Today’s ride on Komoot

The hotel was quite nice, and it had a restaurant. Lucky, because there weren’t many options in Nowogard. The breakfast wasn’t anything special, just like dinner last night, and just like the town. It was fine though, just like the town.

The town is set around a beautiful lake, and the hotel is next to it. It’s just that not much seems to happen here. Other restaurants were closed and people either fished in the lake or walked beside it. That’s all. It left me a bit flat.

After leaving town, I cycled on some oh so quiet roads. It was bliss, and the potholes and patches of yesterday seemed a thing of the past. But all good things come to an end, and I had a long stretch of horrible road. Luckily, it was still very quiet, so I could ride all over the road to find the smoothest path. It didn’t work. These roads made Laos roads look perfect.

I stopped in the really nice town of Gryfice for some lunch. I went to the local Lidl and got a couple of salads and juice, then sat in the park next door to eat them. Very nice.

There was a great section of quiet dirt road through farmland. The dirt roads were smoother than the bitumen ones by far. But … I was Komooted again. To be fair, it happens rarely, but this one could have been much worse.

At the end of the nice dirt road, it took me through the back entrance to a military training ground. It looked as though it was in use, but luckily not today. There were firing ranges with lifelike figures painted, tank and troop carrier mockups as well as all of the obstacle course equipment you see in Hollywood movies. There was nobody there so I continued on. It was only when I came to the front entrance with the signage, that it was all clear. That’s the image at the top – keep out. Luckily, there was no danger at all today. I didn’t stop and take photos – I was too busy looking for any people or activity.

I had a cold drink in the equally nice town of Trzebiatów and set off for the coast only 10 or so kilometres away. There was an unexpected bike path all the way.

I then joined on to the Eurovelos 10 and 13 which go past here. That should mean some easy cycling over the next few days, as long as tomorrow’s weather cooperates. (Note from future self – generally yes, but there are loads of difficult bits).

These are for giants

I’m camping at Gryzybowo which is a nice campground. The guy at reception is a character. I started to ask for a campsite and he interrupted with NO, then started laughing.

I walked down to the beach, not knowing what to expect. It’s not stunning, but it’s a beach. If Ipswich had a beach, this would be it.
