As I was leaving, the owner at the hotel suggested that I do a lap of Phuket and it got me thinking about changing my plans. Nearly did too, but I decided that I’d rather get back onto the trail I was always intending to follow before the diversion to Koh Phi Phi and Phuket islands.
After leaving town, the GPS routed me past lakes / resovoirs and along some great quiet roads, but after 10kms of that, I was back on busy roads for 20kms. I’d had enough and turned off to the beach on a whim. When I got here, I went through a national park and it was beautiful.
It was a dumb move though, as I had to go around the airport but then it was back on quiet roads until I was fairly close to the Sarasin Bridge and off the island.
On the way, I stopped for a superb chicken fried rice at a local cafe. It was the tastiest meal that I’ve had so far on this trip.
I was soon over the bridge, cycling along near the beach and looking forward to a swim. I stopped at Natai House which has great rooms and a pool.As it turned out, the beach was really uninviting when I got there, as well as being polluted with plastic and assorted garbage. The walk was really nice in the breeze, so back to the pool it was !
A great finish to the day topped off by the meal at a small friendly restaurant a few kms south.
