Pluak Daeng to Chon Buri

Today’s ride on Komoot

Another rice porridge with pork and egg for breakfast. It’s a great way to start the day and it provides plenty of energy for what is inevitably ahead.

Packed up amid the gravel dust from the roadwork

The Platinum hotel is really nice. The problem currently is the roadwork on the main road. I mentioned yesterday about the grey dust covering everything. It must be hell to run a business that relies on cleanliness and hygiene – such as a hotel or food outlet.

Today was about 66kms and I’m definitely slowing down towards the end of this trip. Mentally, I’ll be satisfied to reach Bangkok and finish what has been an eye-opening, testing and enjoyable trip.

It took 10kms to escape the traffic of Pluak Daeng. It was nice to have the roadwork behind me and even nicer to have the trucks anywhere but on my road. As soon as I turned off a fairly busy road, the silence was wonderful.

I wouldn’t strike much traffic for the rest of the day except for a few stretches on the side of a freeway. As well, the dogs were disinterested all day. What a nice change.

Nice and quiet now

The only complication was the route. I loved it but there were a few issues as Komoot sent me down dead-ends or roads that I didn’t trust, a few times. No complaints from me though, as there was always an alternative not too far away.

This was a large bird sanctuary, but this guy was paddling across the water in a styrofoam box

It was back lanes for the last half of the trip as I neared Chon Buri. I stopped for a noodle soup with 10kms to go, and even took two phone calls along the way.

Past a Chinese cemetery

I’m staying at the N24 hotel in the north of Chon Buri. The hotel is really nice but the area around it is typically Thai. By that, I mean there are restaurants, food stalls and shops along the street as well as an impressive temple. I had dinner at one of the little restaurants and walked around afterwards. The whole place is out and about, all of the businesses were still operating at 7pm. Such a nice feel about this place. I’m pleased I stopped by.

A typically Thai town

I had my favourite dish for dinner at a small eatery down the road.

Last night before Bangkok
