Success ! All of my gear was dry this morning, the sun was out, I was warm, had breakfast and everything was good with the world again. Truth is, I would have been very happy if only half of those things had happened, so it was going to be a good day.
I had breakfast at the hotel and dropped my key off to the twin brother of the guy from yesterday. It was strange. I felt like I knew him.
I stopped at the lovely boulangerie around the corner and loaded up with food for the morning and took off through some nice rolling hills and countryside. After 10kms, I joined the French route V70 which was nice and very very quiet as you can see below.
After 50kms, I joined the Eurovelo 6 and all of a sudden there were loads of cyclists cruising beside the Loire.
I met Rina and Goronwye from Sydney and had a chat. It was nice to hear the Australian accent. That hasn’t happened to me very much while cycling in Europe. They were heading towards Nevers, and have done this cycle touring thing before. (Sorry guys, I told you my blog was a week behind, but now, it’s nearly 3 weeks behind !) I hope your trip went really well.
As I neared La Charitiè-sur-Loire the wonderful old bridge came into view and I thought that maybe I should stay here tonight. So, I went into the lovely old town and got some more food and checked booking.com, booked a place and went there. I managed to get the bike up the rickety stairs, then walked to Aldi so I could cook a meal tonight.
I just felt like staying in and eating a simple pasta dish. That’s what I did, but I couldn’t resist photographing the old bridge out my front window in the changing light of the afternoon and evening.
