Seville to Morón de la Frontera

Today’s ride on Komoot

Another interesting day. It is Sunday and this morning was quite cold – about 5 degrees when I left.

After getting through a few kms of cobbles in the old city, I took the smooth cycleways to the outskirts, then the rest of the day was on dirt and gravel roads – apart from the one town I went through.

Stunning day

The first part of the dirt was used by local mountain bikers out for a Sunday spin. It was a great day for it too – cloudless and crisp. The numbers thinned out as the ride continued and after the town of Alcalá de Guadaíra, which has a hilltop castle, they stopped altogether. That was nearly 20kms from where I started in Seville.

I stopped there for a cortado and tostada in the sun. It really relaxed me and I was wondering if I really wanted to keep going today.

2nd castle of the day. I was expecting John Cleese to start shouting insults in an outrageous French accent

I had nearly 50 kms of dirt to go but realised I’d made an error with Komoot. When I fixed that there were less kilometres to go – always a good result.

The route just got quieter and quieter. I saw very few people in the second half of the ride. I guess it’s a Sunday of a holiday weekend so I shouldn’t expect many people about.

Even when I arrived in Morón de la Frontera, everything was quiet (and closed).

I found the hotel, checked in and washed the dirt and dust off me. There was a surprising amount of both dust and mud today.

I then walked around the town and went up the hill to the ruins of the castle for part of the sunset. The castle suffered badly in an earthquake in 1969 but the town is very nice.

  1. Hi Andrew,
Happy 2024 to you and the family. I’ve been meaning to get in touch and say that.

Sorry to hear about the top end weather but I’d expect you’d be pretty used to it by now

Komoot links added. Thanks for the reminder – I’m a lazy blogger.
…and Paella ? It’s not going to happen, sorry. I have a shellfish allergy unfortunately – it wouldn’t end well.

Might be re-appraising my Stans plans in light of the continuing conflict and border closures in the surrounding areas. Still lots to see elsewhere though !

    Have fun

  2. Hi John, Just caught up with your posts since your Xmas break. Glad you had a great time with your kids.
Loving the route, plenty of excellent photos as usual.
    But where’s the Kamoot links????
Real wet here (but not cold wet like you’ve had). Monsoon was super late and it was soooo hot. But it has finally arrived and we have a monsoonal trough sitting about us for about 3-4 days now and it has been wet, wet wet. Expected to hang around for another 3-4 days too so no riding for a bit. Wet I don’t mind but it’s real windy too.
    A Paella photo please!!!

    Ride safe,
    Andrew
