mmm… This is a culture shock to me and I’m surprised. I’m always quite comfortable in Asia, but somehow the thought of spending the next 5-6 months here has made me think – whoa, this is real. Then all of the usual bike touring anxieties surface. You know – where will I find accommodation, what about the traffic, money, food, …
I think it’s only when you are comfortable with all of these, that you settle into a tour and relax and enjoy it. That’s easy to do in your home country, but a different culture is an extra but temporary complication.
… or maybe, I’m just not used to it. Regardless, I’ll be over it in a few days.
This afternoon, I’ll build up the bike and check it over. Then tomorrow, I’ll need to do some planning for Saturday morning. I had intended catching a ferry to Malaysia to avoid the busy crossing at Johor Bahru. Unfortunately, the ferries only start up again next week. It’ll be an interesting ride to exit Singapore, and then I’ll be much further west than I intended, so let’s see how far I get.
This was a bit of a rushed trip because of my itchy feet in Qld. So I need to let go of my need for a good coffee to start the day and not expect toasties and western food for 1st or 2nd breakfast 😁.
