Another late start. There’s no need to mention it in future. That’s just what I do, but today was an hour later than ever.
I’d bought a small top tube bag, a Topeak Fastfuel Drybag. I was sick of faffing around with ziplock bags to keep my phone dry whenever it rained. It’s waterproof and the right size, so yesterday, I found it at Intersports and got it.
Last night, I was packing my bags and tried to fit things into my new purchase. It was hard to put things in and so rigid, that it was impossible to get things out easily, so I took it back for a refund this morning. I blame that for my lateness, but it might have been the coffee at the nice coffee shop downstairs or bumping into an Australian family on my way out. First Aus voices in a month.
I left town to the east, via bike lanes which were a lot lot better than those leading in from the south. That was as good as it got though. When the bike lanes ended, the bad roads started.
With a few exceptions, the rest of the day was on some terrible surfaces. There were potholes in potholes, patches on patches and potholes in patched potholes. Archaeologists will be confused if they ever dig one of these up.
Thankfully the drivers were pretty good all day.
There was a nice section of dirt road through a forest and the dirt road was easy to cycle on than the bitumen ones. 😁
Made it to Nowogard which at first glance looks nice, went to the only hotel and asked if they had a room available. The answer was no.
It’s a big place. My shoulders slumped, and I asked – where do I go then? The lady then opened up her book and said – yes, one room. We agreed the price and all was well. I even had a place for my green machine. Very relieved, I unpacked and went to the room before she changed her mind.
I went for a walk around the nice lake and had dinner at the hotel. Every other place was closed.
