I had 90 kms to get to Mersing with no accommodation options in between. An early start was required, but I’m a klutz with alarm settings on my phone, and woke up nearly an hour late. That meant arriving in Mersing around 12:30pm. For this ride in Asia, I want to leave early and avoid the worst of the heat. I’ve been unsuccessful both days now and didn’t get going until after 7:30.
Nothing open for breakfast in town, so I left and expected some food options along the way. I found a great place after an hour or so, fuelled up, reloaded with water and got going again. The undulations were relentless, but happy and supportive drivers made it enjoyable if very hot. Every few kms, a bike or car would wave and toot.
Arriving in Mersing, I went down to the wharf area hoping for a sea breeze. Even better, I found a Roti place and had coffee and Rotis and a few litres of water for lunch – perfect. Still have to work out the language thing though.
It’s Tioman Island for the next three days. After dinner, I found a Bundeberg Root Beer / Sars, sat near the main beach and met a nice couple doing the same tomorrow.
