To Tioman Island

I had some issues with my banks, so I had to get to the booking office to get the ferry tickets or I’d be wasting my accomodation.

All good, the 2 hour ferry ride was smooth, and I found the place easily.

The ferry ride was uneventful but loading the bike on and off was an exercise in trust. It took a few of us to make sure they could lift it from the wharf to the top deck. I was standing under it the whole way, prepared to die for that precious bike.

Unloading was harder, as the wharf was much lower. I had left the bags on the bike to protect it so it was heavy. Two guys on the top deck lowered it to three of us on the wharf but there was that point where nobody really had a good grip on the thing, and the noises from the guys up the top didn’t fill me with confidence. We managed to catch it ok and I exhaled for about 5 minutes.

There are only a few roads on the island, so finding the accommodation was a cinch. Interesting place focussed on diving but really friendly people again.

It’s an interesting place, as it’s really a type of capsule hotel, with rooms consisting of a bed and some shelving for gear, housed in a concrete pipe. Individual bathrooms are separate. It’s all you need and a little bit funky too.
