Vrsar to Novigrad

Today’s ride on Komoot -1

Today’s ride on Komoot -2

Frustrating was the word of the day and as a result there aren’t many pictures.

I left the mega campsite in Vrsar and took the nice path into Vrsar before taking a busy road towards Porec. I wanted to camp about 40kms up the road but there were only the same mega places.

I went through the town of Funtana. Who names these places ?

I stopped in Porec for some food and was soon heading out again. At the first campsite, they told me to go find a spot  then come back and tell them where I decided to stop. It was comfortably full so I left. There was another within 10kms, so I headed there.

Looking back at Porec

By this stage, it was quite hot and I got a regional extreme heat warning on my phone. It was going to be more than 32 today but I don’t see that as extreme – especially after riding through south east Asia.

Porec

At the next campsite, it was the same story – here are your options, go find a spot. When I asked the price, they said they couldn’t tell me, and that it depended on many things. I asked for some indication and they refused, so I left. They could take payment but not tell me the price. It’s clearly silly season.

So, it was back up the hill and to the north. I stopped at a roadside food place. I was a bit hungry and thought that food and drink would improve my mood. There were signs for Kebab !!!  New !!! accompanied by pictures of perfect kebabs. I couldn’t refuse. I had to have a kebab.

One kebab please

No kebab

Ok. What can I order ?

Shrug of the shoulders

Ok, here’s the menu, let’s take it from the top then, shall we ? Have you got this ? (Me pointing)

Silence

And then he said – kebab in about 10 days

This was mission impossible. No, it was even more frustrating than that.

Novigrad

The next camping ground near Novigrad was fairly big but had a field for tents at a reasonable price so that’s where I am. There’s a beach, shady trees, food nearby and the nice town is only 10 minutes walk away along the beachside path.

And that’s where I went at sunset, along with plenty of others. I’m sure it’ll get far busier, but as I near central Europe, and as the summer holidays approach, there are more and more people around. So my timing is pretty good. In a few days, I’ll be heading away from the beaches that people (almost exclusively Dutch and Germans here) will be flocking to. It’ll be interesting to see how busy things are in Slovenia and further north.
