Winterthur to near Konstanz – escaping Zurich and the rain

Today’s ride on Komoot

There aren’t many photos today. Probably because it was grey and dull and possibly because the area wasn’t particularly inspiring. It was far more industrial, but with some great paths to follow.

I left the nice Airbnb in Lausanne and rode to the station. Dennis was getting a train from near his cousin’s place and meeting me there.

The intention was to take the train to Zurich and ride from there in the general direction of Konstanz – on the lake. However, the weather on Zurich was just terrible so we decided to get another train to Winterthur. It was a good move, as we escaped the rain for nearly the whole ride.

We had some lunch in Winterthur and after a few weeks of french, it was nice to be able to speak some German, a language that I at least partly understand. Not that I understand that much, but my french is based on the Twelfth Man with Richie Benaud talking to his vineyard manager – not a comprehensive introduction to any language.

The ride was generally on great bike paths and a couple of nice roads.

Switzerland is so clean and tidy, and right now, it’s spotless due to recent rain. They’ve had a lot of rain. Near where we are staying, there is water laying in the farmer’s fields with two ducks swimming in it. The field is meant to be planted by now.

I booked a room with three beds on Booking.Com and it turned out to be a really interesting farmstay place. There were families with kids and the hosts were lovely people. The farmer’s wifé has MS and is in a wheelchair. She’s a lovely lady and I had a long chat to her.

All the guests were super supportive of our ride and it was a very friendly place. The highlight was the included breakfast the next day. Lots to fuel is up for a day of riding.
